The website is now running pretty smoothly and the result reporting is going really well. At last you can see that all teams are pulling together, often contacting the other captain to ensure that no one gets points deducted.
I will leave these notes here for the time being because they do spell out quite clearly what is expected and under what circumstances you are likely to get points deducted.
Any team who enter their match details on to the web site incorrectly are liable to have points deducted. That is because if they enter it wrong the individual players scores will not be posted on the results page for everyone to see. I know that captains like to study these results to plan their line-up for the next match. So it is only right that the team who made the mistake and prevented the match details from being shown on the web site should be penalised. If both captains come away from the match with different player scores then clearly their entries will never be right and therefore they will be deducted a point each.
BUT! You do NOT get penalised for making the error! Under the rules the correct match score must be posted by the Friday at midnight, otherwise the system on the site automatically sees it as a late result and deducts 2 points, but in order to be as flexible as possible the system will allow a further 24 hours for you to get the player details in. That means that by the Sunday morning all player details of the weeks matches should be showing. If they are not showing then the captains should get together and find the error and put it right. That way no one loses points. If it just gets left like that then on the Monday I will go through and where there are matches with player details missing I will investigate to see who has caused the problem and unfortunately at that stage they will get the 2 point deduction. This improvement in the system was brought about because last season some teams were deliberately not entering the player details so that the captain of the next game could not see who had won etc.
You get penalised for not bothering to check that the player scores are showing and that your entry is correct.
It is strongly recommended that you enter the players details at the same time as you enter the score, last season some captains were deliberately leaving it late to enter their match details. If for some reason you are unable to do so then you will be given a further 24 hours after the deadline to put all the match details in. That means that by midnight Saturday all match details will have been entered, any team who have still not entered the match details by that time will be penalised.
What that means is that after the Saturday deadline go to the web site and look on the main RESULTS page, if your players results are not showing below the match score then either the other captain has not yet entered them OR one of you has made a mistake. If the players scores are still not showing by the Sunday night then I investigate and see who has caused the problem. The most common mistakes are entering scores and handicaps the wrong way round, selecting a wrong players name from the drop down list and putting in a completely different score than the other captain for one of the players. In the latter case then the most likely cause is that the captains did not compare the two score sheets at the end of the game. So what can you do to ensure you don't get penalised? Firstly, do check the score sheets with the other captain and make sure that he signs your sheet to agree that it is correct. Secondly when you do come on the site to enter your result, do so carefully and double check all the information before you save it. Then visit the site again after a day or two and click on RESULTS on the menu on the left and select your division from the drop down menu. Find your match score by scrolling down. If the player results are not shown below the match score then either there is an error or the other captain has not yet entered his match details. You should then go to your club log-in and bring up your fixture list and then click 'amend result' for the game in question. Your match report sheet is then shown on screen and you can check again that you have definitely not made a mistake. So, if your entry is correct and you know that the other captains sheet was exactly the same as yours then you can relax, because the only reason the player results are not showing is because the other captain has either made a mistake or not yet entered them. It only takes a minute or two to do this and it clearly makes sense to do it. However, if you know that the score sheets were not checked properly on the night or you have not got the other captains signature on your sheet then your best bet is to give him a call or email him to sort it out before the deadline.
