Hi guys - here we just take a quick look at the Tuesday League as we approach the run in. With only five games to go it's a good time to see just who is in with a chance of honours and who on the other hand is in a relegation battle.
In the 1st division we have a major scrap going on. At the top now are Highbury, quite an achievement as they came into the League two seasons ago as Fwd Tank B and were promoted in their 1st season and then finished mid table last year. Now with a new venue they have gone from strength to strength and have been improving all season. At the top for a long time, Clev Mens A have had a few bad results recently, losing 2-5 at home to Highbury for example, but far worse than that, also going down 2-5 away at lowly Claremont. A poor run of results since the break saw their lead at the top shrinking week by week, until now they are down to second place. Still its only a 2 point gap, can they pull themselves together and put some good results in to win the title? It looks to be very much between these two for the title, as 3rd place teams FCC A and Fwd Mens A are jointly 7 points behind, so it looks as though they are battling for the 3rd place prizes. After saying that though, Carleton A are only 4 points behind them and Bpl Subs and Fwd Mens B are also still in contention. A couple of big wins for any of these teams could put them up into 3rd place. Down at the other end of the table, whilst its still not impossible for any of the teams to avoid the drop, Park Club A and Claremont are certainly looking like strong favourites to go. But its wide open as to who might be joining them and taking the last relegation place. Carleton B, The Club B, Clev Mens B and Ashley B are all very much involved in the dogfight at the bottom. The next few games will be vital for these teams.
In the 2nd division, where of course there are only four games left, Park Club B look certain to be in the top three, and do a straight swap with their A team who are coming down from the 1st division! They have a 5 point lead at the top but, more importantly, they are 14 points above the team in 3rd place. So it looks like in this division its merely a battle between the top three to decide which order they finish in. Legion and Crescent are the other two who are looking set to get promoted. The teams below them are still in with an outside chance, but they need some big wins if they are going to catch the top three. Fwd Cons and FCC B are 8 and 9 points respectively away from 3rd place and a promotion place. Its not impossible but its a tall order. A couple of good wins whilst the others slip up and it could just be a very interesting run in!
