Thursday review

Looking now at the Thursday League, the 1st division is currently being dominated by the usual suspects. No real surprises, though Bpool Subs are usually there or thereabouts, this time the halfway break sees them top of the pile for once. A spot usually occupied at this time of year by Cleveleys Mens who are not far behind them in 2nd place. Another team often up there over the last few years are Park Club B, again not far behind in 3rd place. The surprise team up there, just like Tuesdays, is FCC. Again they were in a relegation battle at the end of last season, yet this time are having a great season and are right up there. It is interesting to note that both Park Club B and Bpool Subs were right up there at this time last year, yet both faded away and ended up mid table! Two other teams who were very much in the reckoning at the end of last season, Carleton A and Norbreck B have been very much off the pace this time and are both currently mid table. So how are the teams who came up faring? Well of the four teams who were promoted only Norbreck A seem to be holding their own, with a steady mid table position. Currently three of them are occupying the bottom slots in the division, Clev Mens B, Fwood Mens A and SS Bowling are all struggling a bit. Whilst Bispham Cons are also struggling just a few points above them. This weeks results have seen Park Club B go into joint 2nd spot with Clev Mens A  whilst Bpool Subs kept up their winning ways. But at the bottom all the low placed teams lost, they are going to have to start picking up more points if they are going to survive. So who is going to win it? Well I think it will be very close but I fancy Clev Mens A to repeat their title win of last season by a very close margin from Blackpool Subs. One thing is for sure it will be battle at both ends of this division, which will no doubt go right to the wire, but with 4 teams getting relegated this time it will be very interesting in the final weeks.

With the loss of 2 teams right at the start of the season it made a bit of a mess of the 2nd division, but reports suggest that they are enjoying it, even though they are getting a bit too friendly with the other 5 teams!! So with only two teams getting promoted this time, who is looking most likely to get promoted? The strongest team is without doubt Fwood Cons A who look nailed on to go up with the side they have got. But after that its anyones guess! You have to say that Park Club A and Ashley B look most likely as they have won a fair percentage of their games, but the other three teams below them are not many points behind at all. So really any of them could still put a run together and get into the runners up spot. I can't see any of these troubling Fwd Cons but I think it will be very close for the other promotion spot. All in all the Thursday league is proving very enjoyable as always.
