SINGLES & PAIRS 2nd ROUND NOW COMPLETED - RESULTS SHOWN BELOW - NEXT ROUND DRAW WILL BE OUT IN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO - KEEP AN EYE ON THE NEWS ITEMS BELOW
Hello and welcome to our website.
Well we are now heading for the finishing line, and things are hotting up. Its not surprising to see a complete change of fortune for a number of teams in the second half. This snooker league of ours really is a game of two halves which is why you never can predict anything before Xmas. Things often change in the new year and teams who were winning regularly suddenly can't buy a win! Conversely teams who were struggling down the bottom of the table get a new lease of life when their players get higher handicaps and start to put wins together. All good fun and I'm sure it will provide an exciting end to the season as always. I will do a review of the divisions in a week or two as we reach about halfway through the second half and start the run in.
# I am starting earlier than usual this time because I always struggle big style to get the annual trophies back. So can I please request now that any team who finished in the top three last time and therefore were presented with a trophy at the Night Out in may, please find it now and return it to either myself or Derek Truelove. ps. I added this 2 weeks ago and have not received a single trophy to date!! Come on captains!!
The second round of the competitions has now been completed and so the draw will be done this week. Please remember the rules, it is down to both home and away competitors to try to get the game organised. Away players who HAVE tried to make contact and have still had no attempt by the home players to fix up the match, must advise me 10 days before the closing date, giving two dates that they can play. These are then offered to the home players, who then lose home advantage. I will be adding a quick review of the season so far to this home page, it will be in the news items shown below under the heading of Tue review, Vets review etc. I am sure you are all looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable second half.
I'm afraid we are still having a few problems with results not going in correctly and unfortunately that means that the team are penalised. The problem area, as always, is not the match score but the player details. Why it should be so difficult I don't know. All you have to do is compare your sheet with the other captain on the night and then when you get to your pc enter the result exactly as you have down on the sheet! Simples!! Funnily enough someone asked me last night - 'does it really matter when its clear who won the game, if the captains have a players score a couple of points different?' Or was I just being pedantic? My answer was this. For the full details of the match to be displayed then each captain must enter the same, if we don't want that system then fine, we can go back to a system where all you can see is the match score. That would save me a lot of work! But from the feedback that I get from captains the vast majority of you like to be able to see who has played and how they fared etc and some even use that information to decide on their line up for the next match. We cannot have a system where some teams enter the details and others don't bother, that would not be fair! So the system we have is, as I understand it, based on what the majority of people want to see. And as always I'm afraid we have to have a system of punishing offenders, otherwise as we all know, many captains would just not bother getting it right!
So the final message on the result reporting system is please check the 'Results' section on the site, the day after you have entered your result, because if the score is there but not the players names etc then it is most likely that one of you has made an error. Then you should firstly double check your entry to make sure its not you! Then it would be advisable to contact the other captain if only to double check that your sheet tallies with his! Using this method no team should ever have points deducted. But if it comes to Sunday night and there is a match that does not have the details showing then I have to investigate and then whoever has caused the problem is penalised. As I have said many times before you are not penalised for making a simple mistake but you are penalised for not bothering to check your result and not trying to find the cause of the problem and rectify it.
